This is how our morning went...

After getting Michael out of his crib this morning we went downstairs for breakfast. I put Michael in his high chair and offered him some cheerios and milk. Mother nature soon called. Into the bathroom I went and was shocked to find this in my downstairs sink:
(click to enlarge) I sprayed him with some Raid and smashed him with the can. Another bug spray is scheduled! This is not the first time I've seen a scorpion inside my house. Back in September I found one too.

I went visiting teaching this morning and I was in charge of making the treat.

Our morning didn't start off great but it sure ended sweet. Nothing like a cookie right after breakfast!

*One other sweet thing that happened this morning is Joe calling and finding out that he can have his "non-ringing" phone replaced. Our 1 year warranty ends tomorrow.

Lookin' for some good reads

Michael and I have been going to the library weekly. I've checked out books for him, and never thought to get anything for myself until this week. I had no idea what to check out. You can't judge a book by it's cover but that was all I could go off of. I know very few authors. Plus I don't read much(hence I don't know many authors). Sure I've read the Twilight series but that was only because everyone was talking about it. Other than that I have no idea of a good read. I'm looking for suggestions. They can't be too new or I won't find it at the library.

Our first date...

since Michael was born happened on Friday. I know you all are shocked that it took us nearly 17 months to go on a date with out Michael. Believe me I was too. It took a lot of convincing to get Joe to leave Michael with a babysitter. We agreed that we'd put Michael to bed at his normal time of 7pm and go out. (My mom says we're spoiled with this bedtime). Thanks Zoila for hanging out at our house!

I asked Joe to drive his truck so it would feel like a real date since I usually drive us all in my car (I've never ridden in his truck). It felt so different ridding in his truck, it felt like a real first date. Remember we've only left Michael once with my mom. So other than that we've always gone places with Michael, so I'd drive us in my car.

We decided to see a movie and chose "He's Just Not That Into You". It was good for the most part. We used our free movie tickets we got at Christmas from family but just had to buy soda and popcorn. I sat down in the theater and saved our seats while Joe got our food. There were four open seats in the row and I was saving the middle two. A women asked me if Joe's seat and the one next to him was empty. I said I could scoot over and they could have my seat and the empty one next to me. I kinda regret being nice to her. During the movie she'd talk out loud and guess what would happen next or narrate what was happening. I don't know if she was informing her "hard to follow a chick flick movie hubby" or just talks during movies in theaters. Ugh I tried to ignore her talking and still was able to enjoy the movie.

After the movie we went to Dairy Queen and got some cool treats. I really enjoyed our date and hope we won't wait so long to go again. Thanks Babe for a fun evening!

Lesson Learned

Don't leave your wallet sitting on the computer after paying bills.

Then go grocery shopping, fill your cart, go to pay and come to find out your wallet is not in your purse.

Black Bean and Zucchini Chilaquiles

For dinner tonight I tried out a new recipe. It was really easy and quick. We all enjoyed it so I thought I'd share.

Black Bean and Zucchini Chilaquiles

• 1 1/2 Tbsp olive oil
• 1 heaping cup chopped onion
• 1 medium green bell pepper, diced
• 28-oz can crushed or pureed tomatoes
• 2 tsp chili powder
• 1 tsp dried oregano
• 1/2 tsp ground cumin
• 20-oz can black beans, or 2 1/2 cups cooked (from about 1 cup raw)
  
• 12 corn tortillas, torn into several pieces
• 1 medium zucchini, grated
• 8 oz grated cheddar cheese

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees

Heat oil in a heavy saucepan. Saute the onion until translucent. Add the green pepper and continue to saute until it has softened and the onions are golden. Stir in the tomatoes and seasonings, and simmer over low heat for 10 min.

Oil a 9x13 inch shallow casserole dish. Layer as follows: half the tortillas, half the tomato sauce, half the black beans, half the zucchini and half the cheese. Repeat. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly. Let stand for 5 to 10 min. Cut into squares and serve.

Playing in the park

This afternoon we enjoyed a visit to the park with a few friends. It was about 80 degrees along with a nice breeze. It feels like summer already.

1. What year did you graduate? 2001

2. Did you date someone from high school? Yes, a few.

3. What kind of car did you drive? I started out with an '89 navy blue Camry & wreck it in a one car wreck (no details needed)...then ended up with an 82? burnt pumpkin orange Camry. The burnt pumpkin orange is no exaggeration. The carpet caught on fire one day on my way to school. I was on the freeway so I waited until I could exit to put it out. I found an old plastic bottle on the road and I was able to smother it. Someone also threw a soda on my car while in the parking lot. I wish I knew who did it. I assume they just thought my car was ugly and didn't know who owned it.

4. What was the most embarrassing moment of high school? I don't think this would be my most embarrassing but it's what I remember. I was feeling paranoid at school one day and thought a teacher was staring at me in the hall. I asked them if they were and they said nope. I walked away feeling pretty dumb.

5. Were you a party animal? Let me answer with this... Does watching a movie with a few friends and falling asleep sound like a senior party?

6. Were you considered a flirt? No

7. Were you in band, orchestra or choir? I was in Treble Choir my sophomore and junior year. My senior year I was in Jazz Choir.

8. Were you a nerd? I don't think so.

9. Were you on any varsity teams? I'll say yes by the fact that I was a cheerleader but we only had one team.

10. Did you get expended or expelled? Nope but I got a couple girls expelled. I even went to court as a witness. (I saw a fight break out between two girls and a police officer. I worked in the timeout room as an assistant.)

11. Can you still sing the fight song? You better believe it. I learned our school dance to it.

12. Who were your favorite teachers? Mr. Peterson- teacher & Mrs. Raebel- coach and teacher

13. What classes do you wish you would have taken? Photography or sewing- I don't think it was offered at our school though.

14. What was your schools full name? Pasco Senior High School

15. School mascot? Bulldog. I was able to be the mascot at a back to school teacher meeting. It was so much fun. I rubbed a teachers' bald head, I got a few good laughs for that one. I was so hot though!

16. Did you go to homecoming and who with? Yes, Travis Adamson my Jr year.

17. Where did you go on senior skip day? I think I went out to eat with Stephanie Hoegh and a couple of her friends to a mexican restaurant. Then we stopped by her grandma's? I'm not sure this could have been during an assembly. :)

18. Were you in any clubs? Natural Helpers

19. Who was your prom date? Jr. year- Warren Beck Sr. year- Travis Adamson- I asked him as a friend since I had just broken up with a boyfriend.

20. What do you remember most about graduation? Spencer running off the stage and out of the stadium after receiving his diploma. I walked down the aisle to my seat with David Schmick. I also wore a cute orange skirt I bought & I still own it.

21. What advice would you give yourself? Actually develop study habbits.

22. Are you planning on going to any of your reunions? If I'm already in town, otherwise no.

23. If you could go back and do it again would you? Once was enough.

Saturday night while I was peacefully sleeping I was abruptly woken by Joe's fist hitting my nose. I yelled out a small yelp and rolled over but before I could he woke and said he was sorry. So was he really asleep if he woke up that quick?

Joe and I have both been talking and acting out our dreams lately- or so we tell each other. Practically everyday we have a story to tell of how one of us yelled out in our dream, laughed, or even sat up and crawled around on the bed. For some reason Joe thinks it funny to fake sleep talk right before he falls asleep, but he doesn't fool me. I can tell he's faking because it never makes sense. His real sleep talk actually makes sense and isn't the name of a random animal.

I don't know what's causing all this to happen. It's no wonder I've been feeling more tired lately & Michael seems to have been affected by it as well. The past week or two he's been waking up several times before we even go to bed. He's also been waking up around 4am too and will be sitting up when I come in. Last night he was sitting up so I gently touched his face and he just laid back down. I sure hope we can get some peaceful sleep around here soon. Too many loony sleepers.
